Learn more about the history of TopLine Federal Credit Union, our charter and current
field of membership, and other news.
TopLine Federal Credit Union has a history of growth and expansion that spans several
decades. First chartered in 1935 when seven employees of the Bell System pooled
$35 to create Minneapolis Telco Credit Union, the credit union expanded its
field of membership to include other employee groups in 1985. Telco converted from
a state charter to a federal charter in 1996 and changed its name to Firstel Federal
Credit Union. The conversion allowed greater tax savings, streamlined the regulatory
process, and simplified the select employee group affiliation process.
In July of 2002, the credit union expanded its charter to facilitate new growth
and changed its name to TopLine Federal Credit Union. Under the new charter, TopLine
offers membership to individuals and their immediate family members who live, work,
worship, attend school or volunteer in Hennepin County.
Today, TopLine Federal Credit Union remains a member-owned financial institution
dedicated to helping its members achieve their financial goals by offering quality
financial products and services at competitive rates. The credit union’s primary
objective is to remain a high performance, full-service financial organization providing
the highest quality member service available in the financial arena. To that end,
the credit union is dedicated to achieving growth in an evolving and increasingly
competitive market.
